Football for life. Skill without the sprint. Friendship without the finish line.
Walking football keeps the passing, movement, teamwork, competition and joy of football, while removing the running, heavy contact and unnecessary risk.
At Devon Walking Football Club, we believe football does not stop because you get older. It simply changes pace.
What is Walking Football?
Walking football is a slower-paced version of football designed to keep people active, involved and connected. The key difference is simple: players walk, they do not run.
It is usually played in small-sided teams, often on smaller pitches, with reduced contact and rules designed to prioritise safety, skill and enjoyment.
But do not be fooled by the word “walking”. This is still football.
Why Walking Football Matters
Walking football is more than a game. For many players it becomes part of their weekly routine, their social life and their identity.
It helps people stay active, meet new friends, regain confidence and keep enjoying the game they love.
The legs may slow down, but the love of the game never does.

The Walking Football Spirit
Always friendly, welcoming and inclusive. Competitive when it matters.
Walking Football brings together players who share a love of football, respect for the game and the sense of community and belonging.

The thinking is turned up.
Because players cannot run, the game becomes more about movement, anticipation, passing angles and awareness.
The best players are not always the fastest. They are the ones who see the pass early, support teammates, communicate clearly and keep the ball moving.
Not slower football — smarter football

Walking Football in Devon
Across Devon, players are discovering that walking football can be social, competitive, inclusive and inspiring.
Whether you are playing for fun, entering tournaments, joining a league or aiming to represent Devon, there is a place for you in the game.

What to Expect
Walking football is friendly, structured and easy to understand. You do not need to be super fit. You do not need to be perfect. You simply need to be willing to take part.
The rest comes with time.

Laws of the Game
Walking football is played under adapted Laws of the Game (LOTG) designed to protect player safety, encourage skill and keep the game enjoyable, but different organisations may use slightly different versions depending on the competition or setting.
For domestic walking football in England, clubs and organisers should refer to the WFA Laws of the Game 2025 (WFA Walking Football LOTG) and The FA / England Football Walking Football Laws 2025 (FA Walking Football Laws Of The Game).
The WFA and the FA are currently in talks to harmonise the English Walking Football LOTG. A move towards one single version of the Walking Football LOTG in England would finally remove one of the bigger issues players in England have.
For international or European competition contexts, UEFA provides its own Competitive Walking Football Laws, which are mandatory for UEFA-organised or UEFA-affiliated competitions (UEFA Competitive Walking Football LOTG), alongside the wider UEFA Walking Football Toolkit, which offers practical guidance for developing, organising and delivering walking football activity (UEFA Walking Football Recreational Toolkit). Because rules can vary between social sessions, leagues, tournaments and representative fixtures, players and teams should always check which version of the Laws applies before taking part.
Devon WFC Pathway
Walking football can be whatever you want it to be: a weekly social kickabout, league football, tournaments or representative matches.
For players with the ability, attitude and commitment, Devon WFC offers the opportunity to be part of county representative walking football.
